Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia. It has a population of around a million people being the fourth largest city in Australia. Adelaide is also one of the most inexpensive cities in Australia to live in. Adelaide is a relaxed city offering a rural feel. With the Torrens River running down it's centre the city and warm sunny days the city offers a Medditeranian lifestyle. The summers are hot with around 25 - 35 degrees with mild winters of 10 - 15 degrees.
Adelaide was designed by Colonel William Light in 1836 with the city centre built on a square mile grid of wide streets with impressive colonial architecture surrounded by 930 hectares of parklands. It has many restored Victorian and Edwardian buildings scattered throughout the city. Adelaide is like a city within a park as it is completely surrounded by green parks. The parks were laid out by Colonel William Light with his original plan of the city in 1837. The parklands contain 29 parks which is 45 per cent of the city area. Fortunately they've been preserved and enhanced as an important natural asset to the city. |
