Ararat

Ararat is an old gold mining town in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains. A rural city with magnificent views of the surrounding country Ararat is close to some of Victoria's most significant National and State Parks, as well as a number of other reserves and lakes.

Ararat's main street (lined with grapevines growing up the verandah posts) offers shopping and cafes with plenty to fill in a lazy afternoon.

Attractions include Alexandra Gardens with displays in the gardens and glass house between May -December, One Tree Hill Lookout giving a panorama of the countryside surrounding Ararat, J Ward - details of the prisoners and their crimes can be discovered along with and the non-consecrated graves of the three convicted murderers executed in the 1870s and 1880s can be visited.

Ararat is an attractive town with plenty to keep a visitor entertained and a great base for surrounding attractions.
