Less than an hour from Melbourne and close to the infamous Hanging Rock (great for picnics), Woodend is a picturesque township of historical buildings surrounded by tall forests.
Woodend has its own racecourse, golf course, hotels, guest houses, restaurants and bakehouses making it a worthwhile day trip or as a weekend getaway. Many cycling and walking tracks allow visitors to enjoy the views at a more leisurely pace. There are several wineries in the region well worth a visit and a drive through the Macedon Regional Park is a great way to spend the afternoon.
Tasting the local foods (don't forget to take some home with you) with a latte or cappuccino is the recommended way to enjoy this town. Friendly locals and shopping for antiques or gifts at a very leisurely pace is a needed and rewarding change from our hectic lives. |
